New Denomination Dinner & Discussion    |   February 5 & 6, 2023

We had dinner and discussion about the potential new denominational relationship that will begin in the summer of 2023. A team of our church leaders shared about a few different Methodist denominations and how God is leading Killearn into the future.

Letter on Denominational Planning   |   September 27, 2022

Our church family has experienced a busy and difficult season of discernment about denominational issues and the future of our church. Over the past four months, members have attended Summer Conversation gatherings, three presentations in the sanctuary, and the Church Conference on September 11th.

The next step in planning is for our church to consider affiliation with another Methodist or Wesleyan denomination. We now have more time to thoughtfully consider our options. A special session of the Florida Annual Conference had been contemplated for this fall to provide final approval to churches voting for disaffiliation. But at our annual charge conference on September 19th, our District Superintendent stated that there are now no plans for such a session. Thus, the next session of the Florida Annual Conference in June 2023, is likely the earliest opportunity for our church to receive final approval for disaffiliation.

Based on these developments, we plan to take time for healing in our church and to pause to observe the holiness of the Advent season. Over the next three months, the Church Council will study several different Methodist and Wesleyan denominations for potential affiliation. Then, in the early part of 2023, the Church Council will bring forward a recommendation to the membership for a vote on affiliation.

In the meantime, we are working diligently to complete the documents required for disaffiliation, including financial and insurance reporting. During this season, Killearn United Methodist Church will continue to be a faithful congregation of the United Methodist Church. We will pay all required apportionments monthly as we have faithfully done for many years.

We are committed to helping our church family heal after this season of discernment. We are excited about what God is doing among us for a very hopeful future. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us. In the meantime, we will stay on mission and focused on following Jesus in all things.
